Arc'teryx - Norvan LD Trail-Running Shoes - Men's

Category: Men's Running Shoes

I REALLY wanted to like these shoes. I used to wear Altras (until they became so inconsistent the past 2-3 years...writing this June 2019). I then got into Salomon shoes which I currently use for trails only (I'm a Newton guy for road running). Salomon is a narrow brand but I have a low volume fit (learned this year after going into a snugger ski boot). The heel cup in this Norvan LD model, just doesn't keep my foot from slipping. I wear a 10 in my Salomon's and tried this shoe on in a 10 = heel slippage. The 9.5 was just too snug/uncomfortable for my forefeet/toes. LOVE the simplicity of design, love the traction/grip (seems almost better than my Salomon (I have the Ultra Pro and the Sense Ride 2). I really wanted to keep this shoe. I can't really complain about the shoe. Not every shoe on the market can fit every foot. Just like not every Salmon Ski boot will fit every skier. Therefore, if you have no slippage, go for it. That was my one issue. Otherwise, this shoe seems freakin' awesome!

I was looking for a trail running shoe with a higher drop due to some Achilles tendon issues. My go to had been the Saucony Perigrine 7 just for reference as to what fits my foot well. Since this is the "LD" version , i.e. "Long Distance" I was hoping it would have a slightly wider toe box and some decent cushioning . it has neither. Length is standard sizing but the shoe has the most narrow mid foot that ive ever experience. Youd have to have tiny little ballerina feet to be comfortable in these. I wore them around the house for a couple hours and my feet were dying. I dont think I could run 4 miles, let alone 40 in these. As far as cushioning goes, I, a scale of 1-10, I'd give these a 3. I'm not even sure there is any cushion in the fore foot of the shoe.
