Salomon - X Ultra Winter CS WP 2 Boots - Men's

Category: Men's Footwear

Never owned a Solomon piece of footwear in my life but I am sold after the purchase of these. I have never even owned a running shoe that fit so well and comfortably. I have historically been a rabid Asolo fanatic but these, quite honestly, blow them out of the water. They are warmer, far far more comfortable, cheaper in cost, and lighter. This final attribute being the biggest factor. You could take these things on a winter scramble/camping trip above the tree line in complete luxury and comfort. Do yourself a favor and grab a pair.

I used these for hunting elk in Idaho for 6 days. I went through deep snow, rain and water and these things held up really well and provide great ankle support and great grip. After walking through snow all day the outside may look wet or like it gets soaked but no water gets through. I even went through a stream of water and the water beaded up right over the top of it. It was suggested that I order a half size up, I did and glad that I did. I am used to the salomon trail runners so these were great for winter

I do a lot of fishing and hunting in cold weather in the midwest. Over the years I've tried numerous brands of boots and these are hands down the warmest, most comfortable boots I have ever owned. I put a set of speed laces on them for easy on/off and it's a great match. I recommend these to all my friends for cold weather outdoor activities. A+++

I wear size 11 shoes, and the size 11 boots fit fine even over wool socks. I’ve worn these on several hikes in the snow in very cold weather and felt absolutely warm and toasty. I’m very happy with these so far. We’ll just have to see over time how durable they are.

Wouldn't expect anything less from Salomon. Sturdy, warm boot with great traction.

Great lightweight snow boot. Very warm. Great traction. Waterproof

What about for fishing? Bit too much?

These boots are sure to keep your feet warm and dry when you're reeling in the big one on a chilly winter day.

Are these boots a good starter mountaineering boot?

These boots are not recommended for mountaineering use as they are not compatible with traditional mountaineering crampons. The boots are great choice for winter hiking/backpacking. For additional traction in snow, traction devices such as the Hillsound Trail Crampons can be used.

Would these be competent in a winter scrambling/v1-2 bouldering situation? A trip I have planned has a couple spots that get fun but is mostly backpacking.

This boot is designed to be a stable hiking shoe with excellent grip in winter conditions.

I have a previous model of this same boot. What crampons, microspikes, and snowshoes would this and the previous years be compatible with?

Good question. Most winter traction devices will be compatible with these boots if you choose the correct size. You can find traction devices here:

Would you recommend sizing up at all for this boot?  If so, size up a half or whole size to accommodate winter hiking sock?  Thanks.

These boots run true to size/slightly large. Order your standard size.
