Garmin - Edge Explore Bike Computer

Category: GPS Systems

The unit worked for a couple of days on test rides and then once on a tour, it stopped working. Touch screen does not work. A better option is using Ride With GPS on your phone and carry a capable battery pack. The Garmin is not work the $$. I will be returning it for a refund.

I have owned a Garmin 705 GPS for several years and love it. This model The Explore I purchased for another bike that I own in Florida. The difference is day and night. The 705 uses Garmin software to plot a course and the interface is simple, easy to use and understand. It also has a screen that is easy to see and the turn by turn guidance is excellent. The Explore model is a giant step backward in my opinion. The interface is clunky and very unintuitive. Garmin wants you to be part of the Garmin community and that is what this model is designed upon. If you are mainly interested in independently creating a course of your own or from a route sheet and plotting it using Garmin’s City Navigator then the Explorer is not for you. Explorer and City Navigator are not compatible. Other newer models of Garmin GPS my be more user friendly but I have no experience with using them so I cannot comment on that aspect of their use but if the Garmin Community concept of design is common to newer models I much prefer “ old school “ design that is sadly discontinued.
