REI Co-op - Kingdom 8 Footprint - 2018

Category: Tent

Color coded for back and front. Protects the bottom of tent and keeps the water away. This is a must have.

It's mid October and I have finished my second full season in the Kingdom 8 and the footprint that goes with it. I start camping in May and end in October-November depending on the weather here in Idaho. The footprint keeps a lot of moisture off of the tent base as well as pitch or other sticky stuff like discarded gum or candy. This is not a one size fits all product, it fits perfectly. A recommended product.

It’s nice to have a tarp that is the perfect for footprint and staking.

Is this designed to go down under the tent or inside on top of the floor. I understand I could choose (or I have read some buy 2 and sandwich the floor...I wonder why this isn't built in to begin with...I bought one, just curious...? Thanks.

The footprint is designed to be on the ground under the tent to protect the tent floor.

Follow-up question.  The footprint is not symmetrical so where do the orange tabs go, front or back of tent?  That's the question, how to easily figure out back and front of the footprint.

As of Spring 2016, a change was made to no longer color-code our tent poles to coordinating webbings. We recommend matching up the narrow side of your tent to the narrow side of your footprint to avoid confusion.

Tent has 8 green pole tabs, footprint 6 black, two orange.  Where's the color coding???  Bought tent, footprint together 1 yr ago

In spring 2016, a change was made to no longer color-code our tent poles to the coordinating webbing. Otherwise the design is unchanged and your footprint and tent are still compatible.

The bullets say "Intermediate markdowns may have been taken" has this item been discontinued?

The Kingdom 8 Footprint has not been discontinued.

Should I need to buy extra tent stakes to use the standard guylines, or is my new tent missing parts?

The Kingdom 8 Tent comes with 8 steel stakes. Additional stakes would need to be purchased to completely guyout the tent.

Do you have to fold the footprint and put it back inside its original mesh bag, or would it be okay to just stuff it in a stuff sack?

It is just fine to store the footprint separately without the original storage bag.

The below response to another question says "the corner clip and d-ring are on the rainfly for the tent. They can be seen on the tent product page when a closeup view of the tent with rainfly is viewed." I do not see it in the picture. Please explain.

The corner clips and d-rings are on the REI Kingdom 8 tent. They are not on the footprint.

With backpacking tents like the half-dome 2 I can use just the footprint and the fly to save on weight. How well would the Kingdome 8 poles hold up the fly if only this footprint were used? The tent has 8 stakes, it looks like the footprint only takes 6?

We haven't tried to do a minimal pitch with the Kingdom 8. We wouldn't recommend trying this. We don't feel that the tent would be structurally sound.

Footprint must-buy for a REI Kingdom Tent?

While the REI Kingdom 8 Footprint is not absolutely necessary when using the REI Kingdom 8 Tent, it is highly recommended that you do use one. The footprint will add additional protection from abrasion and wear, and this will prolong the life of the tent floor.

I was trying to set this up and the directions say something about the corner clip and a d-ring.  I could not figure out what the directions meant.  Pictures or a clear description of what I'm looking for would be helpful.

The corner clip and d-ring are on the rainfly for the tent. They can be seen on the tent product page when a closeup view of the tent with rainfly is viewed.
