Patagonia - Better Sweater Fleece Jacket - Women's

Category: Women's Jackets

I've been wearing this pretty much non stop since I bought it and its the warmest sweater jacket I've owned. Wearing it with a synthetic down vest makes me about as warm as I'd be with my wool coat on. Love layering it all together to keep me warm! I work in a woodshop and hike outdoors quite often and there's absolutely no wear and tear even through all that. Still looks brand new! The price is obviously quite high but totally worth it. This is my first Patagonia product and will surely not be my last!

I absolutely love this sweater, I practically live in it. It is typically a well constructed garment from Patagonia. It slides easily under a shell or when worn alone has deep enough pockets to keep Necessity's in. It breaths nicely so you aren't a clammy mess after working your way up a big hill. Got this on sale so it was affordable, should have bought two. By the way the zippers are large enough that you don't have to remove your gloves when looking for a snack in the pockets.

The title pretty much says it all. Despite its issues, I love this jacket and wear it constantly. It retains cat hair more than any other item I own.The hair somehow gets embedded in the material's weave. I use a lint roller, but the hair is better removed when I take the sticky sheet off of the remover, and I often pick individual hairs out. Cat hair still remains after this but it's not that noticeable. It also has piling issues but these are easily removed with a fuzz remover.

I love this sweater fleece. It has the softest material, and is warm and comfortable. I'm 5'7", and bought the medium which fits perfect - not too tight, and not too big. I'm going to Iceland in a few weeks, and am planning to use this as a mid-layer under my rain jacket. I've heard temps can be in the 50's there in the summer, plus rain every day. I'm hoping and feel this jacket will be ideal for the conditions. I even purchased the kids version but the 1/4 jacket - not full zip - and I know he'll love how cozy it is. Cozy and warm - great combo!

I always order XL in Patagonia tops as they run small. I am 5'6" and 130 lbs with large upper body (40 DD). This was too big overall, way too long in arms and way too wide at hips (I have small hips). So this is not sized like their other fleece which always fit perfectly. I have re-ordered a Large to see if the fit is any better. Who has arms this long???

I have another version of this sweater and I love the look and feel of it so I bought another one in blue. The first one arrived with a very strong chemical smell and I had to return it. The second one had the same chemical smell that didn't seem to want to dissipate. Perhaps Patagonia needs to change the manufacturing process, because this really is a great sweater.

I really like the cut of this item, however it pills. I have to use a sweater shaver almost after every use. I love the cut, and the warmth, however the pilling is unacceptable at this price. If I could return it I would.

I bought this fleece jacket in Oxblood Red for my daughter and she loves it - It is her go to fleece jacket. It is warm, comfortable, stylish, and well made. My daughter is 5'6", 130lbs and size "S" fits perfectly. In addition, this jacket is "Fair Trade" which I love! Thank you Patagonia!

This fleece is really great! I was apprehensive to purchase because of the price but I am very happy I did. Great fit and extremely comfortable and cozy. Size runs normal as well; I am usually a SM/MED and the small fit me perfectly with a room for a longsleeve or base lay underneath. The grey is a great color also. Highly recommend!

Nice fabric, nice color, nice design but tight arm. I have to wear very thin cloth underneath.

The reviews that say this jacket is warm are totally right. The reviews that mention pilling or "balls" are also totally right. I wear this coat around the house, but it can't be worn out-n-about. Not presentable. And it happened pretty quickly with just normal use. I don't recommend it.

Love this jacket. However, ;) I'm 5' 2" 110lbs. and ordered a small, and I wish I had gotten a medium. The small is not tight but I'd like it to be a bit more roomy/comfy.

Hands down the nicest and most comfortable fleece jacket I own. I use it for hiking, camping, work, after the gym... It keeps me warm, it looks super nice and I get a lot of compliments on it. They are true to size, maybe a little big if anything.

I liked the sweater, but tried on many sizes and colors. There's quite a difference between the slim fit and regular fit (tightness and arm length) , so make sure you've found the fit that works best for you.

The basic construction is the quality I've come to expect from Patagonia but the surface of the sweater pills up really easily and looks terrible. I'm retiring mine.

I admit I bought this because I loved the color, I didn't really need another jacket... but I am very glad I purchased this. If a sweater and a zippered sweatshirt got together and had a baby, that baby would be this jacket. It fits and zips up like a sweatshirt, but is warmer, like a sweater. It has two zippered pockets in front, and one on the sleeve. It is very comfortable, and perfect for fall.

Originally bought this in the x-small, as that is what I normally wear; however, I felt the arms were a little tight. I ended up exchanging it for a small in store. Other than that, I love the jacket and where it all the time. Typically as a layering jacket under a hard shell jacket.

Received item as gift. Size small. Flattering. Grey. Wear in NL for warmth over turtle neck; Arms, elbows, shoulders developed pills like mad and quickly. Not nice! Like. Wear. Pricey. Beware of pill-ing. Pills do not wash out; don't cut pills or you have holes. Do not recommended.

I've been wanting a better sweater for several years and finally broke down and bought it. Why I did I wait so long?? i kept going back and forth between a medium and large, I ended up with a medium so it would layer better under a shell. I am 5'8" 155, with long arms and broad shoulders, I was impressed the medium had long enough sleeves for me. I also tried on the pullover, but the sleeves were shorter on it (why?). I've noticed this blocks the wind a little better than most sweaters and fleece.

I love this fleece. I initially bought it for backpacking, but ended up not taking it because it's a little heavy to carry 200+ miles. But I wore it almost every day this winter. It keeps you very warm in mild winters (think highs in the 50s). The only thing that would make this better is if Patagonia did tall sizes. Since I'm 5'10, the arms are just a little bit too short, but nothing crazy though and not nearly as bad as short as some other brands. I will likely re-buy this in a new color next winter!

Second one I owned. Cant find my first sweater jacket so bought another. Used it in Iceland and Amsterdam then it became my go to piece. Warm yet more fashionable that a sweatshirt. Don't think twice about one today. You won't be disappointed.

Bought this sweater on sale and wanted so badly to love it. Ordered a medium and while it fit my torso perfectly, the arms were constricting. I’m not jacked or anything, and most medium Patagonia fit me just fine. Forced to return it, sadly.

Love! My go-to fleece for weekends, hiking, skiing, etc.: warm, stylish and most, importantly, functional. The arm pocket is also a great addition. This is not the first Better Sweater I've owned, and I'm certain it won't be the last!

I bought this sweater for work this summer. Only wore it a few times a month and have maybe washed it a handful of times and always line dried. It has thinned out and the fabric has pilled now so much that I have returned the jacket.

I needed a jacket that wasn't too light and wasn't too heavy since we live in the desert now and I don't I never need much. It was perfect purchase! I love this jacket! It goes with everything and I could just throw it on and I know I'll be warm enough. And I love that at Zips up because I don't like pullovers. I am a petite and those sleeves go just passed my thumbs. I either cuff them or took them up under but when it's cold I like pulling down and put my hands up in the sleeves.

not the same quality as the one I bought over 5 years ago. material is cheap and color (black) is faded. not a keeper I'll be returning the black and birch white.

The jacket ends at the widest part of my hips, which is not flattering. It's a man's jacket, really. Not contoured for the female shape, at least not mine. Also the zipper sways to one side almost like the jacket is twisted. You can sort of see it in the photo. I really want to like this jacket. It's a beautiful shade of green. And I love that Patagonia uses responsible manufacturing practices. But it's going to have to go back. For the price, I can't keep it given the issues.

This sweater is soft and kept me warm! Love all the pockets especially the one on the sleeve. Took it with me on my recent trip to Northern Europe.

Looks great and have been surprised by how warm it is. FYI, I am a size 6 and ordered a medium and think a small might have been better.

Warm, comfortable, good fit. Perfect when you need that extra layer of protection from the elements.

Bought this jacket about a week ago for my girlfriend and the zipper broke.

I bought my first better sweater a year ago and have worn it non stop. It's the perfect weight and fit. My only criticism is that I have had some pilling. I decided to buy a second in another color during REI's sale (in the same size - small) and am disappointed to find the sleeves an inch shorter than my first sweater and the fit overall skimpier. It's going back. The four stars are for the first sweater. It would have gotten five if it didn't pill.

I've had this jacket for 9 months now and it's getting to the point where I may not wear it anymore due to the pilling. Yes, it's warm and cozy and fits so well, but it looks like I've owned it for years instead of just 9 months. The pilling probably started getting bad a few months ago (6 month mark?). I don't think I've washed it too much, either. I really like this jacket, but I'm disappointed in how it's held up. It's not worth the price.

When this popped on sale it was ordered immediately. Really cute zip up and the material is comfortable and the right amount of warm. My biggest complaint is the shape of the torso. I'm 5'7, 150 lbs and usually wear a medium top and about a size 4-6 and ordered a medium in the better sweater. This fit great across my arms and chest but at the waist and hip is wide and not flattering. Regardless, I'm glad to have it in my closet

I absolutely love the fit of this jacket and it is so comfortable but it doesn't hold up to every day wear and tear. After only wearing it a handful of times, it looked worn out and tired. Pilling all over. As much as I loved this jacket for other reasons, I ended up returning it. I had bought an inexpensive REI fleece years ago and it held up so much better than this jacket.

This Patagonia fleece has it all.A tight knit, warm on those cool days and nights. Great under a vest or jacket based on temperature. The sleeve side zipper comes in handy for my keys and cell. The zippered pockets ensure safety and the internal open pockets can carry odds and ends. I bought this one size up for I know it will shrink somewhat with washings.

I was looking for an attractive layer that I could put over just about anything. This piece pairs well with jeans for a casual look, along with slightly dressier occassions as well (at least in the grey color). It's warm but not as warm as a coat. Very pleased with the quality and fit (especially the sleeve length, as I have long arms).

I love this jacket. I ordered the small, and it did not fit in the upper sleeve area. The jacket fit around the chest, waist and hips just fine. I had to return it and get the Medium. It is a bit roomy but at least my arms aren't snug and I can move them freely. I would suggest a size up just for the sleeves running very small!

Just received mine today, and I already know it will be a favorite. I ordered a Medium, which is my usual size for tops and other outerwear. Though fitted, it isn’t tight. I even tried it with a sweater under it and found the fit to still be comfortable. I got it in Atoll Blue, and I love the subtle hint of color.

I bought this in the birch white, which I call "sock monkey" after seeing a coworker with it. Since then 2 more coworkers have bought this same sweater. I get compliments often while wearing it. I'm 5'7 135lbs and the small fits me great. I loved it so much I bought it in black, navy, and red. I accidentally bought an XS and didn't want to go through the trouble of returning since they were purchased online. It's a bit snug but still fits fine (the main difference is the sleeves seem a bit shorter on me) but wouldn't work well for layering underneath. They would be fantastic to layer over though! For a non bulky jacket they keep you quite warm. I've had it almost a year now and it still looks fantastic. I'm very frugal and these are a high ticket item but taking into consideration cost vs wear I'm very satisfied with my purchase. The jacket has inside pockets on both sides which are GREAT for travel (avoiding pit pockets). I've never used the arm pocket but I do like the look of it.

I bought one for my girlfriend and she loves it. I have one myself and it’s such a versatile jacket. Breathable and light. It’s not the warmest jacket, but perfect if you plan to be active. Good for walking in brisk weather or jogging/hiking in chilly weather. Not a cold weather jacket, though.

I ordered one in oxblood red, and then ordered another in linen when it was 30% off. I'd love to buy more if they go back on sale. Fitted, warm and the pockets zip to keep your items safe -- great for hiking. I use the one on the arm for my ipod. Please go back on sale so I can buy more!

I bought this for my daughter and she really likes it. She had a traditional fleece before, and was reticent of the sweater type fabric, but has really come to like it. The fit is perfect for her both by itself and layered over a top or light sweater.

With the sub-zero temperatures we've had this winter, this jacket has been a God-send. I wear it indoors when I'm chilled and under my winter coat when I'm headed outside for an extended period of time. Good quality product, fits true to size.

A nice, slimming heavyweight fleece jacket that comes in so many great colors I used my husband as the deciding vote. Great for Pacific NW winters; it can be warm under a waterproof shell for winter rain. I’m 5’2” and 114 lb. and got a small.

Purchased the jacket as a Christmas gift for my wife. She is very happy with it. The style and quality is first rate. She wears it all the time, around the house or outside on 40* days. No complaints at all about the product.

I love this jacket. I wear it for everything, including indoors when it's chilly enough. It is comfortable and fits well. This is actually my second one of these jackets, and I got the grey to go with pretty much anything.

Wow. I love this jacket. Washing and wear didn’t do a darn thing to this jacket. After several months and a lot of wear, it’s is still looks and feels brand new! So comfy. - Very happy with this purchase.

Purchased for my daughter. Who was looking for something heavier than a wind breaker but light enough that it wasn't to cumbersome. She really likes it, it's warm and cozy without being too heavy.

Received as a gift-what a nice one. This jacket fits well and is pleasantly warmer than I thought it would be. Solid design, nice weight and stops the wind. Perfect grab-n-go jacket.

OMG, just received mine yesterday and it's perfect. Long time Patagonia fan. Ordered XS in Oxblood Red. Fits as it should on my petite frame. Nice length. Very warm and comfortable.

I have had this jacket for many years and I absolutely love it! I still wear it all the time. It fits perfectly and it just the right warm for cooler days in South Texas.

This was purchased for my wife, as a gift. It has quickly become a favorite and go-to item. A great warm layer for casual, cool-weather wear. Stylish and high quality.

The picture of this Fleece Jacket indicates it is primarily white in color. It’s not. The product is mostly grey in color. Don’t choose this based on the picture.

I loved this sweater, but the arms are about 4 inches too long. I am 5'2" an can usually tolerate some length, but this was not doable. I had to take it back.

It's a sweater, it's a jacket. It's versatile, comfortable, and goes with everything. I have a hard time peeling myself out of it - wear it all the time!

I wear this all the time and get tons of compliments. It is nice and warm, perfect for me on days that are about 30-60 degrees provided it's not raining.

This sweater is very warm and comfortable. It also has a flattering shape, unlike some sweatshirts! It is true to size. I will be buying in many colors!

Great fan of the better sweater. Several family members own at least one. I bought this one for my daughter. Fits well, great color and love the deal!

First, I love this sweater and it's very warm. I get cold easily, so I've worn it in cold classrooms and hunting in 20 degree weather and it's kept me cozy in both scenarios. I've even noticed when taking it off that the inside will be covered in sweat and I still didn't get cold - so it does a good job keeping moisture off your body.

This jacket is perfect for travel. I'm 5' 8" slender and the medium fits with room to layer a shirt underneath. I don't put it in the dryer.

My wife loved the first one jacket so much I got her a second in a different color. She absolutely loves the fit and overall comfort.

love the jacket, its a little longer and the pockets are lined with a soft material. The Jacket is perfect for a San Jose winter.

Omg , this jacket is amazing ! It’s the perfect jacket for hiking, the weight of it is just right . It’s my new go-to jacket .

This is a great fleece for wearing outdoors when the weather is chilly or indoors durning the cold winter we've been having.

Love this jacket. Wore it everyday in Palm Desert to stay warm. Perfect after swim practice or eating outside.

This is the warmest, comfiest, coziest sweater I own. My first Patagonia purchase but definitely not my last!

this sweater is super warm and comfy! Love being able to wear this to work and outside when i am running!

I am always cold. And this sweater keeps me toastier than some snow and cold weather jackets that I own.

This jacket kept me warm on chilly nights and mornings and has officially become my new favorite jacket!

She had a few older polar fleece. I talked her into this one and she loves it. Wants other colors !

My wife is extremely happy with her new jacket , I bought her a second Patagonia jacket yesterday.

I absolutely love this fleece. It’s cozy and fits just perfect. I love all of the pockets too.

I bought this 2 months ago and it's been perfect for hiking, park visits or everyday use.

Nice medium weight with great zipper pockets. It is fitted enough to layer, but not thin.

One of my favorite must have for chilly weather! Love the fit and it washes great.

Very warm and super soft. My favorite fleece jacket to wear for cool fall nights.

Absolutely comfortable and keeps me very warm! Absolutely love it. Fits perfect.

Love it! It's super warm and has lots of pockets. The colour looks great too.

Very comfortable as well as stylish. I have 2 of them in different colors

This item was a Christmas gift. The recipient was thrilled to receive it

Love the quality, fit and style. I would highly recommend this jacket!

I’m 5’2” 115 and the small is way too small. Size up if you have boobs

Warm jacket, very comfortable. The grey is a very versatile color.

Love this jacket! Very warm for how light it is and super comfy!!

Love it. Slim fit with Long enough sleeves. Fits me perfect.

It's pretty, warm and snuggly. What more could you ask for?

Feels great... too big. I'll be returning it the 2nd one.

Gift that was very much appreciated. Girlfriend loved it.

sleeves are massively long and disproportionate to body.

More green then would think with name of shadow blue.

I love this jacket, very cosy and lots of pockets.

Minnesota gal

It says somewhat rain resistant so what does that mean? What temperature range is it good for? Minnesota gal

This jacket is not water resistant. We do not provide temperature ratings on clothing because warmth depends on so many different variables including activity level, metabolism, perspiration as well as the other clothing layers you are wearing.

Can this jacket be worn comfortably under the patagonia down sweater hoodie?

If the Better Sweater and the Down Sweater are the same size, they may not layer well one with the other. We recommend sizing up one size in the outer layer.

Does wind cut through it? I had a Colombia fleece zip up  previously and the wind went right through.

Fleece is not windproof unless you are buying a garment with a windproof membrane built-in or its a soft-shell. The Better Sweater is not soft-shell and does not have a windproof membrane, so it is not windproof.

Can you shorten the sleeves on this sweater?

The sleeves are not technically adjustable, but they could be rolled up if necessary.
