REI Co-op - Kingdom Insulated Air Sleeping Pad

Category: Sleeping Pads, Cots and Hammocks

I have both the older and newer version of this had been long and it is awesome. The newer modle is easier to inflate with an improved pump. I like not needing an extra piece of equipment to blow up my pad. The clips on the side make it both easy to style and also clip together the three I have for my entire family without having to worry about seams. I am 6’1” and 250 pounds and sleep easily on the long size. It does take a little practice to get efficient with the pump but each one blows up in just a couple of minutes.

This was comfortable, but I returned it because the only way to fill it is by giving the pillow CPR (2 handed, full body pushes over and over). It's not for too long, but long enough to just be an annoyance. I was attracted to the thickness, but I'd rather have a 1.75-2" smooth top, self inflator than this for backpacking. Many are at least equal to this one in comfort, are lighter, and often times cheaper.

The pump on the cushion side is easy to inflate. Just shut the 2 deflate valves on the bottom, open the top valve and close hole with palm and pump down opening the the hole just a bit on the up cycle by raising the palm a hair. No need to blow at all. To deflate just just open bottom 2 valves and roll once, then fold and roll again. Pack it up. It does go back in the bag. I am 250 lb side sleeper. The 30 inches really helps.

If you like spending your valuable time in nature pumping on a sleeping pad, this is the product for you - act now! With only a single valve intake, these pads took forever to inflate. Meanwhile, my 8 year-old son was able to inflate a NEMO pad in about 1/4 of the time. In fairness, once these pads were inflated, they were fairly comfortable. However, nothing can compensate for the inordinate amount of time these took to set up. I'll be exchanging the three of these I bought for something more effective.

I just spent two nights on this pad and it is everything I had expected. The air pump and small pillow are great features of this pad. I was very comfortable and warm with temperatures in the low 40s. I am 6'2" and 195 pounds and this size was great. I will be using this on a two month motorcycle trip and expect it to hold up fine.

Compact, easy to inflate and built in pump. Gives plenty of clearance from the ground.

I bought this mattress after my third Exped air mattress blew a baffle and became unsleepable. I assumed I'd try it while Exped was replacing the defective one, however after using it for a few days with great satisfaction, I decided the REI was easier to deal with in the field than the Exped and would become my primary mattress for the following reasons:

Insulation value was great and as long as I laid on the pad it supported my weight.(220lbs) If I sat on the pad it bottomed out and I could feel the ground. I tried and tried to inflate it more but couldn't do it. Still a nice pad for sleeping.

This had the look and feel of a luxury sleeping pad-in the store. However, the time required to inflate, and the lack of instructions on how to complete the inflation was too much. A luxury camping pad needs to be convenient to inflate. This was like doing hand to hand chest compressions. It should not be this difficult and going to return ASAP

Had this pad for 6 years. It’s been great. Yes there’s smaller but the trade off is comfort. I have the XL

I just picked this pad up as a replacement to an older REI pad that I've had for 10 years that just bit the bullet.

I have several pads spanning the range of light backpacking pads to the Kingdom Bed. I have pads from Big Agnes, Exped, Thermarest and REI Co-op. I have pads with longitudinal chambers and some, like this, with horizontal. Trust me, I have experience with pads.

I bough this for a week long camping trip and it hurt my back. Not comfortable to sleep on at all. I need to return it.

Have had to return three times do to slow air leaks.

I am very happy that we purchased this air mattress. I have chronic joint pain and it is always made worse by sleeping on the ground, even with a foam camping pad. This air mattress provided the best tent sleep I've ever had! It's also pretty compact, so it's easy to travel with.

For the size and “packability”, this pad really gives you some comfort. The R rating keeps away the cold ground. We especially like the strap-together feature which keeps our two pads from separating. A little bit of exercise to inflate the pad is worth the comfort you get!

I've had this pad for a while now and it is just so comfortable. Although it is not a backpacking pad, it is great for car camping. Very comfortable and very warm. Easy to inflate with pump on the back. Overall I love this pad and highly recommend it for pleasure camping!

I had ordered the Kingdom Sleep System, but chose the sleeping pads instead for the added versatility, simple inflation with built in pump and easy storage. They performed very well on a campground tent camping "adventure." snapping together is an added bonus.

Very satisfied, this thing is sooo comfortable. It’s like sleeping back at home. Very compact and keeps warm due to the insulation. This is my 3 pad I bought and this one is the ONE. One of my buddies just got it to and is very satisfied.

This may is exactly what I wanted to carry on my bike for road trips. It packs easy and is fairly lite. It also isn't to thin or compresses under my weight (240) I like that the air chambers run sideways instead of vertically.

I grew up sleeping on thin pads and thought there was no reason to change things up because it was normal. This packs twice as small and turns into a cloud when blown up. Remarkable product.

I've had this pad for four years. Doesn't leek, stays firm all night. Pillow does need a bit of time to release after storage to pump up pad, but that is to be expected. Still a great pad!

I bought this REI Co-op Kingdom Insulated Air Sleeping Pad 2 weeks ago. We tested the pad with inflated for lasting 2 weeks. There is no leak. Good quality!

So impressed with this little mattress. More comfy than my big REI 3.5 mattress even and is smaller rolled up and easy to inflate.

My partner and I have one each. They clip together to make a double size bed. We cuddled and slept like babies.

Comfort and warm for dual size sleeping bag. I use 'GIGA PUMP' for pumping. Very easy.

Nice, very comfy but large for backpacking. Ended up returning bc it was so large.

easy to pack and totally comfortable to sleep on the ground

Anyone have any ideas about how to connect three of these together for me, husband, and child?  Are there buckles on both sides?

This sleeping pad has buckles on both sides that allow you to connect multiple pads together.

Are there any inflation sacks (other than the Stratus inflation pad) that will fit the Kingdome pad valve, and can be used to inflate this pad?

As of April 2018, we do not have a REI inflation sack that works with this sleeping pad. Please feel free to give us a call for additional recommendations.

Do you have to use the built in pump to fill it? Can you fill it with an external pump?

The valve on the back is designed for deflation. If you are able to attach a pump to it, air will escape when you remove the pump. The built in hand pump must be used to reach full inflation.

How do you pump the Kingdom sleeping pad up? I didn't see how to do it in the information provided. Is it easy to pump up?

The Kingdom sleeping pad has an integrated hand pump for easy inflation.

Does the sleeping pad make and noise when tossing and turning on it?

The micro-brushed polyester surface helps reduce noise when adjusting your position on the pad.

Who wide is the sleeping pad?

The long is 25" wide.

Froonys

Are the spec dimensions correct with both the long and extra long being the same length @ 78"? Is the width the only difference? If so it should be a regular and wide to choose from.

Yes, the specs are correct. A regular sleeping pad is 72" long. Since both of the sizes are 78", we use long and XL.

Is this pad noisy when fully inflated? Also the foot pump probably does a good job getting the bulk of the air into the mattress, What if you like a firmer mattress, Is there a way to top it off?

This pad is not noisy when inflated. The pump on this pad must be operated by hand and can inflate the pad firmly if desired.

Jonathan S

What is the best way to store this pad? Should I keep it out of the bag and laid out if possible?

For best performance, we recommend storing the pad unrolled with the valve open under a bed or in a closet.

MichaelAM

How thick is the pad?

The pad thickness is 2.75 inches.

What materials are used with this mat? I'm looking for a duo setup so I like the latch ability to connect 2 mats, yet I am looking for long lasting and durable compact mats for longer travels out of a backpack to use in a tent. Thanks :)

The Insulated Air Sleeping Pad is made of a soft brushed polyester that is very durable. The pillow/pump is made from a mix of the same polyester and open cell foam.
