Great overall features, but really small inside for two people. My two inflatable mattresses fill the complete width, so not even some room on the sides of the tent.
Coming from using a Sierra design Tiros for twenty years, I am used to have extra room inside, even for backpacking. Tungsten 3p has 66" wide whereas 2p only has 54"head/46"at the feet. If only camping and not backpacking, I suggest going for the 3p.
Also, no coments on mosquitoes, but the way zipper opens, very many can make it in!!!
Took a good bit of time researching a solid 2p tent for backpacking. This tent was exactly what I was looking for. Narrowed down my selection to TNF Talus 2 and this tent. Great color and slightly more privacy than TNF. Tungsten2 is slightly larger than the Talus2 and his a few more inches on headroom. Yes it weighs a few more ounces than the Talus2 but not noticeable. I am sure some UL hikers will balk at the weight comment. My personal preference is Light gear will give you the best overall value. Combination of quality, durability, features and price. Yes the UL Tungsten2 weighs approximately 2 lbs less but at the cost of $$$ and durability. I can handle a 35-40lb shakedown.
I am 6’ and 180lbs my son is 5’10 and 170. We have REI Flash sleeping pads and we fit not to snug in the tent. Room is still available for gear. Two doors are great, handing loop in the top are good for lights or accessory net. Pockets are nicely placed Use of tent is primarily the GSMNP. No leaks and is sturdy even when not guyed out. Purchased on sale 20% for a great deal.
You will not be disappointed with this purchase.
Took this tent on a week-long car camping trip. On the second night we had to camp in high wind. After scavenging some extra stakes from around the campsite (tent only ships with 6), we had the tent fully staked and guyed down in the most sheltered spot we could find. Despite this, the tent collapsed in the wind. It would spring back to kind of upright when the wind relented, but under load the roof of the tent was slapping us in the face. The poles bent and the hook in the top of the tent ripped out. None of the stakes pulled out of the ground though, so I guess that's nice. Tent was still usable afterward.
This is my first piece of marmot gear, and I’ve taken on a couple trips with my girlfriend with great success, it’s plenty big for 2 people and fairly light as well, it has 2 vestibules one on each side. The main selling points were the price and it came with the ground cloth all the others you had to buy the ground cloth separate
nice product, great value. fits two 6' 1" guys comfortably. very easy to set up
I don't think this tent is too heavy. After 3 nights in the popular zippered hammock system (they're not for everyone) I welcomed the extra weight. I might prefer to carry the UL but durability was a major factor for me since I use this tent mostly for backpacking in wilderness areas.
bought this tent a couple years back and I must say it is a awesome tent. I go backpacking with my dog and I have room for my gear and more. one night it storm like like crazy but never leak one bit. great tent for the price.
Not good for winds over 15 mph. pole broke at swivel point.
First use, and first time sitting it up, was a clear but windy and mild day on a ridgeline of a recent burn area in the Kalmiopsis Wilderness. That night night was uneventful. The next day was the same, til around 3 pm when the wind turned to gusts, the temp dropped, the rain came down, and so did the sleet. I spent all afternoon and all night in the tent, hunkered down. I was dry and cozy, with my book, with the weather raging around me. This tent took all of that in stride. For 17 hours. Very impressed.
it rained alot before i got in the tent to hit the hay and the tent ended up on a puddle but everything inside including me was dry. the fly and two entrances made it easy to access all my stuff inside plus gave more room for storage protected from the rain. The poles are so simple to use with a connecting barrel that holds the intersection of the poles together. the easiest and fastest tent i have ever setup. The stakes are even curved for easy removal from the ground and they are hex shaped
I love the structure of the Tungsten 2P! I set it up at a late spring Scout outing in Wisconsin. While we were away from camp for the day, very high winds and pouring rain turned into a blizzard with 5-7 inches of extremely wet and heavy snow. When we returned, out of the dozens of tents that were set up around the grounds, mine was one of 3 or 4 left standing - and not a drop of water inside!
I bought this tent and have only recently been able to start using it. It is a great tent. Easy and quick to set up in less than five minutes. It handles the wind very well even with the fly on.
I’ve been in three days straight rain and no leaks.
It’s light and very well made.
Have just used this tent once so far. It was easy to set up solo, had good headroom, and thoughtful placement of pockets. I appreciated how much space the "vestibules" under the fly had -- all my gear stayed dry through a rainy weekend. Also appreciated that the footprint was included. Great tent and great price.
Have had this for almost a year now and over a dozen trips. It has held up perfectly and no issues with it so far. Its a bit on the bulky side for backpacking but I really had no issues fitting it in my backpack. I'm very impressed with the quality and this has been the best tent I have owned in this price range.
This is an awesome tent! I've never had it leak, the zippers never catch, and the vestibules on both sides are a great place to put gear -they stay completely dry. Only downside is that it's kinda bulky. Still manageable for backpacking though!
My daughter and I just finished a 5 day backpack river trip on the Escalante River in Utah. we purchased the Tungsten 2P tent and it di very well in the rain and wind. easy to assemble and moderately light and functional for the price
I purchased this tent 3 months ago and have been on multiple trips with varying weather. This tent is so easy to put up and it’s a perfect 2 person tent! Easy, well made and performs great!
Took this backpacking up to gobblers knob. Easy to set up/tear down. Seems very tough...So far no complaints.
I bought this replace 2 roughly 20+ yr old TNF tents. Read mixed reviews of course. I mainly solo backpack with my dog so this seemed like a good option. Plus it was part of REI's big Labor Day sale.
I have now used this tent 5 times for weekend Scout campouts. I like it because as a Scout leader it has enough space to keep the extra paperwork, field books etc that I have to pack with me on an outing. However, it is a little on the heavy side to pack on long backpack trip. All of the outings I have used the tent have been a quarter of a mile or less pack in. I have another much lighter and smaller tent for longer trips.
Fortunately I have not camped in the rain with it yet. It looks like the seams are well sealed, but I carry a small bottle of seam sealer with me just in case.
The cons: I did not give the tent 5 stars because the vestibules are not the same size. If I was using it to camp with my wife, the smaller vestibule could create a problem on a rainy day/night. Like most new tents there are never enough stakes to stake the tent out properly in stormy weather. I automatically add the extra stakes and tie out line that I may need. It may add weight, but in bad weather the weight is better than losing your shelter.
So far I have really liked the tent. I have not had any issues with it. It sets up easily if you practice a couple of times with it. The foot print is a nice addition and fits under the tent properly. For long distant backpacking I would want someone to share the load because it is on the heavy side.
This tent is absolutely fabulous for what it is. No, it may not be ultralight -- but that doesn't mean you can't still schlep it around on the trails. I love the brow pole design; it adds just enough head room that my partner and I can both sit up and change clothes. The floor space is wide enough to accommodate both of our sleeping pads without us ending up on top of each other. If we had a dog, she'd probably fit in the tent too... maybe someday we'll get a chance to test out that theory. (We're small folks, though, about 5'5 and 5'7 and pretty skinny, so take all that with a grain of salt if you're much larger.) Plenty of room in the vestibules for our packs, boots, and camp shoes. Warm enough for 20-30 degree nights with a good bag, and enough ventilation for summer weather. Make sure to cinch the fly straps tight after attaching the buckles to lift the fly off the mesh and prevent condensation.

I bought this tent and took it out camping. Weather was pretty humid and misty (we were camping near a beach) and the inside of the tent aggregated a noticeable amount of condensation on the grey and orange opaque part of the mesh layer. Is this normal?
It is normal for condensation to develop in the conditions described. You can minimize this by properly venting the tent; the easiest way to do so is to leave your vestibules partially unzipped. The cool airflow will prevent the condensation that develops when the warm air inside the tent meets the cool air from outside at the rainfly.
