This sleeping bag has treated me very nice with many warm nights. With backpacking you want the lightest possible which most people go with down, but what about on a rainy day? I find that the extra weight in synthetic is well worth it. The padding in synthetic is very firm and won't ever sag or loose volume, and it's not even that much more weight. This bag suits me wonderful as I am vegan.
I am a very warm sleeper and have owned many bags over the years. With this in mind, I consider the manufacturers comfort range ratings for this bag off the mark. I think they overstate the bag's heat retention ability. Just used this bag in fall conditions, in a tent, and found the bag uncomfortably cool at around 31-32 F. Given the bag's rating at ~ 15 F, this should have not happened. Otherwise I feel this bag is good value if purchaser knows this. Good price point. Apparently good build quality from a recognized brand of good outdoor gear.
I purchased the tall-wide size and found the bag sized appropriately sized
We got this for our October Whitney hike knowing Trail camp was at 20-25 F and more frigid with windchill added and hence could get real serious/deadly.
As expected it was quite a gusty night but this bag provided pretty good protection. My feet were cold (maybe we aren't used to cold since we are from SoCal or due to perspiration/bad socks) had our emergency blanket wrapped around our lower body and feet especially for extra warmth overnight. The toe box /lower was a bit narrow to my liking but I believe thats to keep the warmth better. I did not feel any cold sores/effects of cold exposure in the morning and we were able to hit the summit as planned.
I wouldn't hesitate again for any 20 degrees with this bag but if it goes below that hitting its lower limit, I would have extra warmth control like we had. Overall its a good buy and a life saver!
This thing is great! I've taken on several campouts, and it has yet to fail to perform. On the very first night I slept in 25° weather on a cot out in the open. If you're on the fence about which size to get, go for the regular size one and not the long one.
Great bag, very warm, good price. Comes with a compression bag. Didn't pack down small enough for my pack though. Had to return for that reason only.
Don’t buy it from REI. Way cheaper on amazon. $87 dollars on amazon and has a better warranty.
Used this sleeping bag extensively last summer in upstate NY for hiking, biking and canoeing. It is a little large for a hiking sleeping bag though. It did keep me warm even when it was wet.
Quality Construction and features like no snag zippers make this the great sleeping bag we're temperatures down to about 15 degrees Fahrenheit, so I haven't tested it to that temperature yet. Lightweight and stuffs to a small size approximately 10 in in diameter.
Kept me comfy and warm at night when it got as low as 45° F. Left the zippers half way open to keep cool.

I am a 71", 145 lb woman, what size/type would you recommend? I always feel cold, but like to be able to move around. Is bigger better in this case? Should I get a woman specific bag?
Yes, if you tend to sleep cooler, you can to go with a women's-specific bag over a unisex bag, only because there tends to be more fill, especially in the foot-box for the comfort rating shown. Also, you are best suited in a 72 inch bag (Regular in men's and Long in women's) for comfort and thermal efficiency.
