Five Ten - Guide Tennie Approach Shoes - Men's

Category: Climbing Shoes

I bought these in preparation for a lot of day hikes in Southern Utah, consisting of a lot of technical hiking on the slick rock that is so prevalent out there. The fit runs a bit narrow, but I have a wider foot, so most standard shoes run narrow. However, once out on the rocks, these shoes were excellent. The tread compound is no joke, and was very grippy in almost all conditions. Good stiffness in the sole for protection and support, and the lacing system worked well to provide a custom fit. I also really appreciated the toe protection. The only downside is they weren't as grippy in looser soils, but that is to be expected with a tread compound that is designed for rocks. I am looking forward to many more hikes with these.

Show fits well and is well made. Comfortable. The sole is very stiff. I have never had a shoe with negative heel before and only time will tell if these are keepers. The traction is excellent even on wet surfaces. I also like that if I don't lace them up tight they are easy to take off with out untying. The loop on the back is large and strong.

These shoes are great. I've been doing a lot of aid and big wall practice so wearing my free climbers all day is uncomfortable, hikers are bulky and tennies get destroyed instantly. The guide tennie has amazing edging and the rubber grips great. Only complaint is the heel support, because there doesn't appear to be any.

Very comfy. Great fit, but I read that they run 1/2 a size small so I bought 1/2 a size larger. Perfect shoe for running around the desert or scrambling over rocks and boulders.

If you use these shoes for their intended purpose---APPROACH SHOES---they are phenomenal. The grip of the Stealth-rubber outsole on rock is amazing. The downside is that they are not waterproof. Also, the Stealth rubber is like Pirelli performance tires: they will wear faster than harder-rubber outsoles. So, when I am summiting difficult peaks, I carry these in my daypack until I get to the crux moves. Then, I put these on and I feel like Spiderman!

Run about a size small. This is at least my 4th pair of Guide Tennies. Same quality construction I expect from 5.10, but the total length is about 1/8" shorter than my last "identical" green pair and the ankle is way more padded. The net effect is that even though they're marked the same size, they run a 1/2 to a full size small. My toes can't take it.

I found it hard to complain about these shoes over the past several months but despite their light usage, they are already falling apart. The soles in particular are starting to peel off from the main part of the shoe. The shoes are repairable (and can have the soles replaced) but the durability is questionable.

I bought theses for a trip across Washington on the Cross Washington route. The route includes a fair amount of hike a bike sections and theses shoes where great. Good peddling shoe for flats and walked well also very comfortable.

I recently purchased my third pair of these (previous pairs purchased in 2012 and 2014) in my normal guide tennie size 12. The new iterations are about a 1/2 to full size smaller. I recommend sizing up from the older models.

The bump in the middle of the sole hurt my foot after 10 min. Seemed sticky on my indoor wall but not enough time to truly review. Going for the sportiva tx2-3 next time. Alex can’t be wrong.

Nice looking shoe. The only issue is that the tongue of the shoe slides to the side very easily. Always having to readjust and lace.

I purchased them for an upcoming trip and even paid for the expedited shipping but they are a lil small for my feet!

Killer for tail hiking or walking on rafters. Tons of support with great traction.
