La Sportiva - TX 3 Approach Shoes - Men's

Category: Climbing Shoes

I never write reviews but I strongly advise against buying this shoe. It is highly rated in a lot of online gear reviews and I wanted to throw in my 2 cents. The lacing system, in my experience, is fundamentally flawed. The thin cord cuts the laces (soft on soft?) and also the cord itself rips. I used them fairly heavily canyoneering in Utah for about 4-5 months and went through 2 pairs of laces and the yellow cord also ripped in multiple spots. I think the yellow cord is a single piece so when it rips in one spot it starts to pull-out / get loose elsewhere. So, even if you got super durable laces, you'd still potentially have issues. Very bizarre and unreliable design. Canyoneering is SUPER hard on gear so maybe I should cut them some slack, but I don't see why a standard lace system wouldn't be better. I can understand how it would get high reviews if only used for a short while since it is a great shoe otherwise. My friend in Utah has the same shoe and the exact same lace issues - sample size of 2 is good enough for me in this case.

I purchased these 3 weeks ago and have to say that once again La Sportiva has exceeded my expectations with their footwear. I am on my feet constantly with work, hiking, and leisurely strolls. Can't wait to put these to the test on the slick rock in southern Utah in the coming weeks. If you are looking for an approach/hiking shoe these are worth the trip to see how they fit on your feet.

When starting off hiking obsessively a few years back I purchased some boots thinking they would be best for long hauls and even longer day hikes. Since then I have learned that lighter is better in most cases and had been using the Raptors and Wildcats for most of my day hiking and even short backpacking trips. Finally I wanted to step into the world of climbing and mentally having more confidence on the granite in Desolation Wilderness, insert the TX3's. These amazing shoes have not only given me better stamina on the 10+mile day hikes; but hiking up the granite at Horsetail Falls is a breeze in these things. I can't wait to push the limits on other climbs in the future. The super grip soles are like velcro to granite, even when wet! I was very surprised with the sturdy feeling of the shoes although they only weight 1lb! If your on the fence about buying an approach shoe like I was, get these! You hear it all the time, but really, you won't be disappointed!

I usually hike in La Sportiva trail runners so I thought I would give these a try. Comfortable right out of the box. I've only put about ten miles on them but they handled everything with ease, wet rocks, smooth boulders never slipped. Very grippy. Roomier than other La Sportiva shoes I have worn but no slippage at all. The lacing system really locks the shoes in place. True to size.

I have been hiking with these for about two months now in the Colorado mountains, usually five mile hikes multiple times a week, and they are very comfortable, grip rock well and are very light and breathe well. This is my third pair of La Sportiva - I usually go through a pair a year - and I have never been disappointed.

Very comfortable on the rock or as a daily wear shoe. Worked great scrambling on the rock at Alabama Hills, J-Tree, etc. Good combination of comfort and support. Super cool looking too and I have received many compliments on them.

these are the best shoes I know of for both trails running and scrambling. I've climbed up to 5.4 in them and feel very secure. The brake

These shoes are good to hike in plus they are good for climbing up to class 4.

These shoes have a level of comfort, control, and traction that can't be found elsewhere. Buy these for daily wear, hiking, backpacking, rock climbing, or even tapping your heels three times to get back home in a jiffy. (the color is a bit over-the-top ruby red-orange).
